What could be more challenging for a tenor from Mozart's home-town Salzburg than singing one if his most central Italian Mozart-roles at Italy's opera venue number one? Alike Mozart Peter Sonn was born in Salzburg where he received his musical education at the university which carries the name of the master composer from Salzburg.
Since his first years on stage Peter Sonn's vocal career has been focussed on Mozart. Meanwhile he has sung Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) in more than a dozen of international venues including the leading opera-houses in Berlin, Hamburg and Frankfurt. Peter Sonn, however, is eagerly trying to find a balance with Italian parts (most recently Alfredo in La traviata at the Welsh National Opera earlier this year) or slavic roles (such as Lensky, Vladimir Igorevitch). Furthermore up-coming role-debuts express the direction of his future repertoire: Jenik in Smetana's Bartered Bride, Rodolfo in La bohème and Leukippos in Strauss' Daphne.
For the weeks to come the audience of La Scala can enjoy Peter Sonn's Ferrando, a role he will be heard with at La Scala on July 3rd, 5th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 16th and 18th, 2014. Already in September of this year Peter Sonn will to Milan for concert-appearances (Uriel in Joseph Haydn's oratorio The Creation under Zubin Mehta's baton).
