Masterly Premiere at Salzburg Festival

When an apprentice has to pass on the knowledge of masterly chant, then we probably are talking about a central scene of Wagner's "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg". The role of the apprentice David in the new production of Salzburg Festival is Peter Sonn's most important premiere within this  year's festival summer.

After an intensive and very fruitful rehearsal period with stage director Stefan Herheim, the high-ranking soloists of the Salzburg Festival present an opulent and manifold interpretation of Wagner's - in this case Biedermeier-like - artists' drama. The Vienna Philharmonic are playing under the musical direction of Daniele Gatti; amongst Peter Sonn's illustrious stage partners are Michael Volle as Hans Sachs, Georg Zeppenfeld as Veit Pogner, Markus Werba in his role debut as Sixtus Beckmesser and Roberto Saccà as Walther von Stolzing. Unbelievable that it is the first time after 75 years that a Wagnerian opera is presented at Salzburg Festival! The performances can be attended on 2, 9, 12, 20, 24 and 27 August 2013.
