Isolde from Klagenfurt to Glasgow

A few months ago, Katherine Broderick made her most acclaimed debut as Isolde in a new production of Tristan und Isolde at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, staged by Intendant Aron Stiehl under the baton of Music Director Chin-Chao Lin. Here some press reviews:

„The British soprano Katherine Broderick, who is also delightful as an actress, outshines everyone as Isolde with her powerful forte and finely differentiated soft tones.“ (Salzburger Nachrichten, Karin Waldner-Petitschnig, 19.09.25)

„Katherine Broderick delivers a compelling performance as Isolde, her clear, well-focused soprano impressive in both the quiet passages and the dramatic high notes. Her phrasing is thoughtful, and her dynamics - from muted pianissimos to powerful fortissimos - are balanced and beautifully resonant. Particularly in the third act, she develops a palpable heightened intensity: her voice remains controlled, never losing its composure, while simultaneously imbuing the character with a profound, human tragedy. This blend of vocal clarity, emotional depth, and dramatic artistry makes her interpretation a significant element of the evening's performance.“ (IOCO - Kultur im Netz, Marcus Haimerl, 09.11.25)

„The Irishwoman Isolde is portrayed by the Englishwoman Katherine Broderick with economical gestures, but seething with emotional depth and radiant in the high notes.“ (Der Standard, Michael Cerha, 19.09.25)

„Katherine Broderick made her role debut as Isolde and impressed with her masterful vocal control, dramatic intensity, and secure high notes.“ (Klassik-begeistert, Dr. Rudi Frühwirth, 23.09.25)

„British soprano Katherine Broderick is known for her performance in Götterdämmerung. Her impressive portrayal of Isolde is characterized by nuanced pianissimos and, as usual, a powerful, room-filling forte.“ (Online Merker, Rudolf Smolej, 22.09.25)

„Katherine Broderick sings the Irish maiden with radiant high notes and many nuances; her "Liebestod" in particular is incredibly emotionally powerful.“ (Opera Online, Dr. Helmut Christian Mayer, 21.09.25)

Katherine Broderick will soon return to the role of Isolde in a concert performance with Scottish Opera, with shows on March 7, 2026 at the Theatre Royal Glasgow and on March 11 at Usher Hall in Edinburgh. For more information, please click here.

At this point, I would like to acknowledge the work of my colleague Maxine Robertson, who was Katherine Broderick's dedicated manager for many years until her well-deserved retirement at the end of 2025. Dear Maxine, thank you so much for putting me in touch with Katherine. All my best wishes for happiness in this new chapter of your life. Dear Katherine, thank you for choosing me to take over from Maxine. I will do everything in my power to justify your trust.
