"The art of singing in its purest form," is how the cultural platform Online Merker summarized the acclaimed performance of Jennifer O'Loughlin as Luisa Miller in a new production of Verdi's masterpiece of the same name at the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich, which premiered in May 2023.
In 2021, the American opera singer, who has lived and worked in Europe since 2003, was appointed Bavarian Kammersängerin by the Bavarian Minister of State for Science and the Arts. Kammersängerin Jennifer O'Loughlin has been a member of the ensemble of the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich since 2016 and has also worked at the Bavarian State Opera, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Vienna State Opera, the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, at the New National Theater Tokyo as well as at the International George Enescu Festival, at the Salzburg Festival and at the Bregenz Festival.
Her most important roles are Maria Stuarda (title role), Anna Bolena (title role), Amina (La Sonnambula), Luisa Miller (title role), Gilda (Rigoletto), Semele (title role), Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Martha (title role), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Antonia (Les Contes d'Hoffmann), Cunegonde (Candide), Tytania (A Midsummer Night's Dream).
In concert she has performed with orchestras such as the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, the Tonkünstler Orchestra, the RAI Orchestra Sinfonica Nationale in Torino, the Danish National Chamber Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony and with conductors such as Roberto Abbado, James Conlon, Daniel Harding, Manfred Honeck, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Zubin Mehta.
Jennifer O'Loughlin earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory, a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music and received a Karajan Foundation Scholarship at the International Opera Studio Zurich of the Zurich Opera House. She then started her career as a member of the ensemble at the Vienna Volksoper.
She can be heard on the Naxos label in Handel's Messiah, on Elīna Garanča's Deutsche Grammophon recording Revive and on the Rienzi-DVD at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse (Opus Arte).
