Marion Tassou

With the devil in Paris

Only few days ago Marion Tassou was acclaimed by audience and press in Normandie, the operetta by Paul Misraki performed with the ensemble Les Frivolités Parisiennes at the Théâtre de l’Athénée Louis Jouvet.

Some quotes from reviews:
“Marion Tassou has been entrusted with the role of Barbara captivating the audience with a fresh voice and phrasing as well as with a cordial timbre“ (Olyrix).

“Marion Tassou is a fantastic Barbara. Her return to the Athénée with Les Frivolités Parisiennes in December for the production of Le Diable à Paris is covetously anticipated”. (Première Loge)

Provided the virus will permit it, Marion will be back on stage of the Théâtre de l’Athénée Louis Jouvet in December for the year-end-production of Le Diable à Paris by Marcel Lattès.

Opening-night on December 18, 2020.

Debut at the Hamburg State Opera

Only few singers succeed in having such wide and versatile repertoire at their disposal as French soprano Marion Tassou. Her operatic parts extend from the baroque period up to contemporary music. Within the last few years she has performed roles such as Vénus in Destouches’ Le Carnaval et la Folie, Ilia (Idomeneo), Pamina (The Magic Flute), Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice), Blanche de La Force (Dialogues des Carmélites), Pauline (La Vie Parisienne) and Mahenu in Reynaldo Hahn’s L’île du Rêve. However, she also sang frequently Schönberg’s Pierrot Lunaire and took part in the world-premieres of operas by Dominique Pauwels (L'Autre hiver), Vasco Mendonça (Beach Bosch) and Marc-Olivier Dupin (Le mystère de l'écureuil bleu).

Marion Tassou is now making her debut with the Hamburg State Opera, one of Germany’s leading opera-companies. She will be performing the role of Melanto in Willy Decker’s staging of Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria by Monteverdi. Opening-night on October 29, 2017.

From one island to the next!

After having discovered the strange and mysterious island of "Bosch Beach“ (the fascinating opera by Vasco Mendonça which premiered a few weeks ago at LOD Muziektheater), Marion Tassou is now getting to L’île du rêve (The island of dreams) by Reynaldo Hahn, a new production of the Théâtre de l’Athénée in Paris. Upon the world-premiere of this „Polynesian idyll in 3 acts“ Jules Massenet wrote to his pupil Reynaldo Hahn: „Your island of dreams, this is where I want to return! To return speedy! Oh! It’s beautiful! Egads!“ Let’s therefore rush to the Athénée in order to enjoy L’île du rêve and "the creamy and smoothly drawn vocal line of soprano Marion Tassou" (Frankfurter Rundschau).

Opening night on December 6, 2016

Tribute to Hieronymus Bosch

After having joined last year’s world-premiere of Un autre hiver, a poignant opera by Dominique Pauwels (music) and Normand Chaurette (text), Marion Tassou is continuing her collaboration with the LOD muziektheater. The new world-premiere is a tribute to painter Hieronymus Bosch on the occasion of his 500th death anniversary.

"The authors of Bosch Beach (Vasco Mendonça, composer and Dimitri Verhulst, text) are choosing the notion of hell on earth as their starting point (following the inspiration of Bosch’s painting The Seven Deadly Sins) in order to view our present world through the painter’s eyes. What does hell look like today? Where is today’s ‘False Paradise’, a concealed paradise on earth? Sunbathing at the marvelous beach of Lampedusa while refugees are washed ashore obviously gets pretty close to this idea.”

Opening night on September 10, 2016 at the Concertgebouw in Bruges.

World Premiere in the European Capital of Culture

Within the scope of Mons, European Capital of Culture, the company LOD musiektheater is presenting the world premiere of „Another winter“, an opera by Dominique Pauwels upon on a libretto by Normand Chaurette.

Two characters, possibly Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine, are travelling on a ferryboat through the ice of the North … Marion Tassou performs one of the two leading characters.

Opening night on May 7th, 2015 at the Théâtre le manège.mons. Following the three performances in Mons, the production will be touring through Europe and to Canada. All dates of the performances

A season in Paris

Last summer at Hector Berlioz's birth place, La Côte-Saint-André, she caused a sensation in the role of Héro in Béatrice et Bénédict under the baton of François-Xavier Roth. Since the beginning of this season, Marion Tassou is a member of the Académie of the Opéra Comique in Paris, where she will be soon taking part in the new production of Delibes Lakmé (opening night on January 10, 2014). Because she is open for all kind of repertoires and styles, Marion Tassou will subsequently be singing Arnold Schönberg's Pierrot Lunaire. Next dates of performances
