Marie-Claude Chappuis is entering the new season with a festive upbeat when joining the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and its principal-conductor Jonathan Nott within the opening-concert of the Festival Septembre Musical in Montreux singing orchestra-melodies by Henri Duparc. Subsequently she will be part of the gala-concert celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Concert d’Astrée at the Paris Théâtre des Champs-Elysées under the baton of Emmanuelle Haïm. Later on to follow her interpretation of Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas within two different productions: first at the Lille Opera and then at the Berlin State Opera.
Geneva already acclaimed her when performing no less than 8 roles in 8 different productions, a. o. as Penelope (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria), Ottavia (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) and Lazuli (L’Étoile). Marie-Claude Chappuis returns now back to the (newly renovated) Grand Théâtre for a role which has been accompanying her over the past few years (particularly within the fascinating production of Sasha Waltz & Guests in Berlin and Madrid), we are talking about Dido in Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas. Provided the virus will permit it, the opening-night is scheduled for May 2, 2021 (with or without an audience in the theatre).

Marie-Claude Chappuis is never running out of ideas, vigour or organisational spirit! The “Festival du Lied” which she created in 2001 in her hometown Fribourg will happen this summer - inspired by the American cinema of the 1960-ies – in a „covid-compatible“ version as “drive-in”! Top-class artists from all over Switzerland will be performing in a bucolic landscape above Fribourg between July 25th and 31st, 2020. Marie-Claude Chappuis herself will be heading the final-concert on July 31st sharing the musical programme with Luca Pianca (lute), Duilio Galfetti (mandolin and violin), Christel Sautaux (accordion), Christophe Sturzenegger (horn und alphorn) as well as with young baritone Simon Ruffieux.

Following her acclaimed Dido within the highly successful revival of the Sasha-Waltz-production of Dido&Aeneas at the Berlin State Opera, Marie-Claude Chappuis is making a role-debut in St. Gallen: Celebrating Jacques Offenbach’s 200th anniversary she is singing the title-role in La Belle Hélène for the very first time!

A few months ago she made her debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan (Schubert’s Fierrabras) and performed at the Theater an der Wien (Rossini’s Guillaume Tell). Now Marie-Claude Chappuis is Dido in a new production of Purcells Dido and Aeneas at the Teatro Real in Madrid staged by Sasha Waltz. The orchestra is the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin conducted by Christopher Moulds. Opening night on March 31, 2019.

On stage of the prestigious Vienna Musikverein our mezzo-soprano from Switzerland is now joining the Concentus Musicus again, an ensembles she has always been holding dear, as having worked with the Concentus and his founder Nikolaus Harnoncourt frequently throughout many years. The great René Jacobs has been another long-time loyal musical partner with whom she recorded Mozart Requiem for the label Harmonia Mundi lately. Marie-Claude Chappuis also meets for musical teamwork regularly and happily with conductors such as Giovanni Antonini, Ivor Bolton, Riccardo Chailly, Emmanuelle Haïm, Sir Roger Norrington and Christophe Rousset a. o.

Together with the Concentus Musicus and its current music- director Stefan Gottfried she is performing a Bach-programme which can also be heard at the Brucknerhaus in Linz on December 10, 2018.

After having been a steady member of the Innsbruck Opera ensemble led by Brigitte Fassbaender, the mezzo-soprano from Fribourg (Switzerland) has made her way throughout the world, from Geneva to Tokyo via Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Salzburg, Shanghaï, Seoul, Hongkong. She has collaborated with conductors such as Giovanni Antonini, Ivor Bolton, Riccardo Chailly, Emmanuelle Haïm, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, René Jacobs, Ingo Metzmacher, Riccardo Muti, Roger Norrington and Christophe Rousset among others.
Being relentlessly curious and versatile as an artist, her opera-repertory includes more than 30 roles like Ottavia (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Idamante (Idomeneo), Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito), Charlotte (Werther), Marguerite (La Damnation de Faust), Der Komponist (Ariadne auf Naxos) a. o. She dedicates as much time to concert-engagements and recitals as she does to opera.
Complementing her already notable discography (among others a recording of a Grammy nominated La Clemenza di Tito with René Jacobs), she has just published her first solo-CD featuring precious courtly arias, recorded with the outstanding lute player Luca Pianca. A compilation of pure music and poetry (on the label Deutsche Harmonia Mundi).
